Stag Party Distillery Tour
If you're planning a visit to Scotland, what better way to immerse yourself in its rich culture than by taking a distillery tour? Recently, we had the pleasure of transporting a lively group of Australian lads on a Scottish distillery tour as part of their stag itinerary. From the rolling hills of Deanston to the picturesque setting of Glengoyne, it was an unforgettable experience, both for the group and for us! Here’s a glimpse into that exciting day and how you can plan your own distillery adventure with us.
The Journey Begins at Deanston Distillery
Our first stop was Deanston Distillery, located along the banks of the River Teith in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Famous for its hand-crafted, unchill-filtered single malts, Deanston is a true gem for whisky lovers. Our Australian group was eager to dive into the history of this 18th-century cotton mill-turned-distillery. The lads got to witness the entire whisky-making process, from the grain milling to the aging in oak casks.
As the tour guide from Go Explore Scotland explained, Deanston’s whisky is made using traditional methods, and its connection to the land is evident in every drop. Naturally, the whisky tasting at the end was the highlight – the group couldn't get enough of Deanston's rich, smooth flavours!
A Scenic Drive to Glengoyne Distillery
Next on the itinerary was a scenic drive to Glengoyne Distillery, which sits at the foot of Dumgoyne Hill, straddling the Highland Line. Glengoyne prides itself on producing some of Scotland’s most delicate and complex whiskies using a slow distillation process. The group loved hearing about how Glengoyne is considered a 'Highland Single Malt Whisky,' though it’s distilled just north of Glasgow.
The lads were treated to a guided tour of the distillery, where they learned about Glengoyne's use of air-dried barley and its unique focus on sustainability. The tasting session was a hit, with everyone enjoying the different cask strengths and flavours. From the rich oak notes of the 12-year-old to the smooth finish of the 21-year-old, Glengoyne offered a fantastic range of whiskies for all palates.
A Tasty Lunch at The Old Mill
No Scottish tour is complete without a hearty meal, and we made sure the lads were well-fed by stopping off for lunch at The Old Mill, a charming restaurant nestled in the beautiful countryside. Known for its fresh, locally sourced produce, The Old Mill was the perfect pit stop for a delicious lunch. The group enjoyed traditional Scottish fare, from haggis and neeps to fresh seafood. After refueling with a pint or two, we continued our journey through whisky country.
Whether you're visiting Scotland for a special occasion like a stag do or simply want to indulge in the whisky culture, we ensure a smooth, comfortable, and enjoyable journey.
